Connecting Community. Expanding Access. Enriching Lives.

The Outreach Branch of the Jersey City Free Public Library is committed to extending the Library’s reach beyond its walls and into the heart of the community. We connect residents to vital resources, programs, and services, making the Library a hub of learning, engagement, and support—wherever they are in the city.

Want the Outreach Branch team to participate in an upcoming event?

We’re happy to support events whenever possible (staff availability permitting), and we kindly ask that requests be submitted at least three months in advance for proper scheduling.

Our work includes a range of initiatives designed to

meet people where they are:

Bookmobile and Mobile Services

We will bring the Library to your neighborhood, especially areas without nearby branches or with access barriers. We provide books, resources, and library cards on-site, with pop-up events and scheduled stops in partnership with local schools, parks, apartment complexes, daycares, senior centers, and more, to ensure easy access.

Community Awareness Series (CAS) – Arts, Culture, Civic Education

Building on the legacy of the original CAS program, founded in 1977, CAS creates and supports public programs that celebrate the arts, culture, and civic education. Through lectures, cultural celebrations, and performances, CAS continues its tradition while engaging new generations and reflecting the vibrant, changing demographics of Jersey City.

Education to Career Outreach

Engages learners of all ages through partnerships with schools, community groups, and educational programs. We support literacy, homework help, research skills, college and career readiness, and workforce exploration by connecting students, educators, and families to library resources and programs, building confidence and pathways to lifelong learning and success.

Citywide & Neighborhood Outreach

Connects with residents at citywide events and neighborhood gatherings, celebrating the diverse cultures, identities, and experiences that make up Jersey City. We participate in events that engage families, seniors, LGBTQ+ residents, and other underrepresented groups, offering family-friendly activities and targeted programs.

Connects residents with trusted information and community-based resources to help navigate everyday challenges. This service focuses on supporting individuals and families who may face barriers to access, including justice-involved individuals, new immigrants, and others in need of additional support.

Services include sharing resources, referrals to local organizations, promoting programs that support well-being, and guidance with publicly available applications and processes.

Please note: The Library does not provide case management, clinical services, legal advice, or direct representation.
