Learning Center Partners with Greater Bergen Community Action Head Start to Teach Parents
JCFPL’s Learning Center is proud to announce another exciting community partnership, this time with Greater Bergen Community Action Head Start.
Under this partnership, the Learning Center is providing English as a Second Language classes to the parents of students at two Head Start locations: one in the Heights (93 Nelson Ave) and one near Lincoln Park (330 Duncan).
“The Jersey City Free Public Library is our number one resource for supporting family literacy,” said Stephanie Latasa, Head Start’s Parent Activity Coordinator, “not just for children, but for the entire family. At Head Start, we’re working to change lives, and JCFPL has been an essential part of making that work possible.”
According to Learning Center Director Eric Trader, the feeling is mutual. “When parents improve their English, they’re improving their employment prospects along with their ability to support their children in school. We’re just so grateful to Head Start for allowing us to be part of this process.”
