JERSEY CITY FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY TO FACILITATE CITYWIDE BACKPACK GIVEAWAY
Jersey City, New Jersey — August 19th, 2023 — Jersey City Free Public Library (JCFPL) is excited to share the news about our upcoming Backpack Giveaway for library patrons. As part of our commitment to lifelong learning this citywide giveaway will distribute 5,000 backpacks filled with school supplies. Jersey City has 39 schools, and with such a large school district there are students who need support that JCFPL is prepared to help. The supplies in these backpacks cater to Pre-readers, Elementary, Middle, and High school students so that all age groups will have the tools they need to be fully prepared for the beginning of the academic year. JCFPL is happy to offer resources to the students in our community to aid in their education.
The giveaway will take place on August 23rd from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Priscilla Gardner Main Library, Five Corners Branch, Heights Branch, Glenn D. Cunningham Branch, Miller Branch, Earl A. Morgan Branch, and Communipaw Branch.
“Empowering students with the resources they need to learn, and grow is at the heart of Jersey City Free Public Library’s mission to support the lifelong learning of our patrons,” Terry B. Hill, Director of Jersey City Free Public Library continues. “This backpack giveaway is about more than just distributing resources. It is an investment in the futures of our youngest patrons in their journey to lifelong learning. Jersey City Free Public Library is honored to support our local families and help ensure every Jersey City student is prepared to tackle this new academic year.”
Along with the school supplies, students will receive our Back-to-School Guide. The guide lists and explains all digital resources students can access through JCFPL, such as our vast e-book library, online courses and lessons for academic subjects, and a relevant JCFPL programming schedule. It also features a welcoming letter from Jersey City Free Public Library Director Terry B. Hill telling students to return to the library and embrace the new school year.
“The JCFPL Board of Trustees is thrilled to support the Annual Backpack Giveaway. By providing these resources, we hope to empower our youth to succeed academically and foster within them a lifelong love for learning.” says Nur-E Farhana Rahman, President of the Jersey City Free Public Library Board of Trustees. She continues, “This initiative not only equips our city’s students with essential school supplies but also nurtures a sense of community and inclusivity. We often hear that it takes a village, and we are proud that the Jersey City Public Library is a part of that support system.”
We extend our gratitude to L’Oreal USA and the Youth Foundation of Jersey City for generously providing volunteers to organize and assemble the backpacks for the giveaway
