Celebrate National Library Week with JCFPL

Celebrate this National Library Week with Jersey City Free Public Library! Libraries are vital institutions at the heart of their communities—a place where people can explore new ideas and connect with one another. They serve as spaces where knowledge is free and accessible to all, empowering individuals with the resources and information they need to learn, grow, and engage with the world around them. They are one of our last democratic institutions. No matter what changes are happening in the world, the Jersey City Free Public Library (JCFPL) is working tirelessly to provide Welcoming Spaces that ensure every aspect of our collections, programs, services, and spaces reflects the rich diversity of our community.
To celebrate JCFPL’s favorite holiday we have some special programming planned:
- Make You Own Lego Storybook (for ages 5-16) (All branches)
- Due to on-going construction, please check with your local branch to confirm it will be open on the day of the event.
- You can pick up a Lego storybook package from all the open branches while supplies last. Each package will include a fun box of 100 Lego pieces, a Lego booklet with instructions, a word bank, story starter cards, and blank pages to write your own stories. We hope this will spark your creativity and make our Summer Learning Program, “Color Our World,” even more exciting to look forward to.
- Championing Intellectual Freedom: A Conversation with Lisa Varga (Priscilla Gardner Main Library):
- Lisa Varga, Executive Director of the Virginia Library Association and a nationally recognized advocate for the freedom to read, will sit down with JCFPL Director Terry B. Hill to share insights from her career, discuss the growing challenges of censorship and book bans, and highlight her work in defending access to information.
- Interactive Family Literacy (Five Corners Branch):
- With the Educational Arts Team, children and their caregivers are able to create their very own Pop-Up Puppet presentation by performing for each other one-on-one using the custom-made cardstock stages. Everyone takes home their creations, and the stages can be used to create puppet shows at home from other stories they read together in the future!
- Drop Everything And Read Day (Morgan Branch):
- On this day we celebrate the birthday of author Beverly Cleary and her Ramona & Beezus books! Come read, find new books, and do some themed activities with us at the library!
