O’Hara’s (formerly P.J. Ryan’s, 172 First Street) lassoed the Western BBQ fundraiser, hosted by the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation on Thursday evening, June 18th and, true to the weather forecasts, it rained buckets all day, but not during the three-hour (5-8 p.m.) BBQ!
Vittles reflected the Western barbeque theme, from beef to the modern turkey and veggie burgers. While there was a hint of Gene Autry in the singing and choice of songs during dinner hour by the Eamonn Ryan Band, including a perfect rendition of the old chestnut, Glendale Train, originally from country rock’s New Riders of the Purple Sage. Then the band covered a variety of classic rock songs provide the dancing fun later on.
Serving as the new Library Foundation Chairman is Michael Ryan, with Morris Winograd as vice chairman, Treasurer Joseph Panepinto Jr. and Recording Secretary Elizabeth Spinelli. Members of the Board are: Joseph A. Turula, Samantha Newman-Webster, Kathleen Hartye, Robert Burke, and Sandra J. Webster, with Priscilla Gardner as executive director of the Library Foundation.
“The foundation was established in January 2004 by Priscilla so many capital improvements, such as the new Bookmobile and security cameras now being installed, could be made,” said Library Foundation Chairman Michael Ryan, who previously served as treasurer. “And that we’ve been meeting our targets in fundraising shows how much the citizens of Jersey City care about improving their library system.”
“One by one, we are creating a better Jersey City library,” said Library Director Priscilla Gardner, who also serves as executive director of the foundation. “The new Bookmobile has been on the road for a year and we’ve already installed security cameras at Greenville, Miller, Five Corners and partially at the Main Library.”
The Library Foundation Trustees cordially invite the public to attend any of their fundraisers, which come in formal and informal varieties at different times of the year.
