Two Popular Community Bank Employees Read to Children at Several Upcoming Library Story Hours
JERSEY CITY, N.J. October 18, 2013 – Who says people in banking only care about numbers?!
Two bank managers from Popular Community Bank, located at 1 Journal Square Plaza in Jersey City, came to read to children today who attended the Wednesday morning story hour at the Vincenzo Domenico Bonetti II Children’s Room at the Main Library, which holds story hours on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11 a.m.
Ana L. Sanchez, sales and service associate at Popular Community Bank, read first – Color Surprises, a pop-up book, by Chuck Murphy. Indira Lachhu, assistant branch manager at the Journal Square branch, read Baby’s Colors (Karen Katz’s Brand-New Baby) by Karen Katz. Both used children’s books that taught as well as entertained.
Children attending the bilingual story hours at Biblioteca Criolla (4th Floor, Main Library), 472 Jersey Avenue) will be able to hear stories read on Thursdays, October 24 & 31, at 10:30 a.m., with bank storyteller Ana Sanchez also having read Los Duendes Y El Capatero by Margarita Robleda Moguel on Thursday, October 17.
In their final story book readings, Ms. Sanchez and Ms. Lachhu will read to children at the Five Corners Branch Library, 678 Newark Avenue, on Tuesday, October 22 at 10:30 a.m. Five Corners holds preschool story hours on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.
“At Popular Community Bank, Community Engagement is in our DNA. Our team members devote hundreds of hours every year mentoring young students, fixing up gardens, painting schools, teaching financial literacy, sponsoring blood drives and many other activities that keep us deeply rooted in our communities.” said Brian Doran, Popular Community Bank’s New York Metro Region Executive. And hearing directly from the Popular Community Bank volunteers speaks volumes: Ana Sanchez believes in ‘serving the community’ and ‘loves working with children.’ And Indira Lachhu adds that her adult children are both teachers and has found out first hand that reading to children is indeed ‘very rewarding.’”
