Library Services Discontinued Until Further Notice: Bookmobile & Biblioteca

JERSEY CITY, NJ   June 22, 2012 – Due to impending repairs of the Bookmobile, which has been on the road since May of 2008, the Jersey City Free Public Library announces that the Bookmobile will be off the road indefinitely, until the vehicle diagnosis is done on Monday and the repairs can be made.

The Bookmobile was purchased with funds raised by the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, Inc. This custom-designed and –built mobile branch library cost over $222,000, which was funded fully by contributions to the Library Foundation – using no taxpayer money. With four years of being on the road, the Bookmobile can now be considered a working vehicle, and not ‘new’.

Get Ready for Dinosaur Troubadour & His Buddy, T-Rex

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   June 13, 2012 – Who said dinosaurs don’t roam where humans walk?!

Dinosaur Troubadour, the walking-talking-guitar-playing reptile from Field Station: Dinosaurs, has been stalking many a library recently, and now, he comes to Jersey City’s Main Library at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20th to read, play his guitar and sing his dinosaur stories for children of all ages!

Dinosaur Troubadour will be bringing his fellow dinosaur, Tyrannosaurus Rex, to the Main Library, where he can muster his towering 15 feet to roar and breathe at the corner of Jersey Avenue and Mercer Street in the heart of Downtown Jersey City’s Van Vorst Historic District.

The Vincenzo Domenico Bonetti II Children’s Room, in conjunction with the Jersey City Division of Cultural Affairs and Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, sponsors this unique program from Field Station: Dinosaurs, a world-class family attraction that combines cutting-edge science with the creative minds of great artists and teachers to create a one-of-kind experience that's thrilling, educational and fun.

The Provident Bank Donates at 19th Century Map, Books & Other Materials to the NJ Room

JERSEY CITY, NJ   June 12, 2012 – Pieces of the historical puzzle that bind The Provident Bank and the City of Jersey City now become part of the Jersey City Free Public Library, for their preservation and for all to see.

All items being donated to the New Jersey Room of the Jersey City Free Public Library are property of The Provident Bank and were accumulated in the course of its 173 years of banking.

“Provident and Jersey City share more than a connection with Dudley Gregory, Provident’s first acting president and Jersey City’s first mayor. The Provident Bank shares a rich history with the City of Jersey City: its businesses, its peoples, its successes and its challenges. We take pride in this shared history, and we are delighted that we can share our treasure trove of historical information with the residents of Jersey City through the Jersey City Public Library,” said Jean Quinn, vice president, public relations, The Provident Bank.

Also representing The Provident was Nicholas Cavaluzzi, vice president and area manager, Jersey City.
