Heart failure is a serious condition, but it does not mean that the heart has stopped. * Around 5.8 million people in the United States have heart failure. About 670,000 people are diagnosed with it each year. * The most common causes of heart failure are coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. / Wednesday, October 10 @ 1 p.m. / Seating is limited. A Tale of Our City – Jersey City’s Annual Book Festival – Celebrates 5 Years with Expanded Program

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   August 29, 2012 – Writers Who Perform, the theme of A Tale of Our City 2012, Jersey City’s annual book festival, brings an exciting assortment of authors ready to (literally) rock your world!

The two Jersey City-based writers – known for their polished performances – will give a lively finish: spoken word artist Dujuana Sharese and singer/songwriter Debra Devi, lead in the rock band Devi and author of The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu, at the 5th annual book festival, A Tale of Our City on Saturday, September 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Victorian, historic Van Vorst Park, Jersey City, N.J.

A Tale of Our City is presented annually by Jersey City government: Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and the Municipal Council, the Jersey City Division of Cultural Affairs, and the Jersey City Free Public Library.

Bookmobile Will Be Off-Road on Wednesday, August 1

JERSEY CITY, NJ   August 1, 2012 – The Bookmobile of the Jersey City Free Public Library will be in for repairs on Wednesday, August 1, and is off-road today, and Thursday. The Bookmobile’s Blue Route is affected.

“We know how much our patrons love the Bookmobile, and we will have it back on the road as soon as possible,” said Assistant Library Director Sonia Araujo, who oversees the Bookmobile.

NJ Room Stars as Backdrop Again for the TV show, “Who Do You Think You Are?”

JERSEY CITY, NJ   July 23, 2012 – The British, and original, version of the popular genealogy show, Who Do You Think You Are? staged a video shoot at the Main Library’s New Jersey Room on Saturday, June 16, with an actress who just might be familiar with U.S. audiences: Samantha Womack.

Before you think, ‘Samantha who?’ think, EastEnders, a popular British drama shown on local PBS stations in the New York metropolitan area.

People come to the New Jersey Room, the special collection department at the Jersey City Free Public Library, when researching personal, and home, histories. Genealogy searches are done from phone calls throughout the world, as families who have settled here, have then moved on.
