JERSEY CITY, N.J. April 1, 2014 – The Jersey City Free Public Library is proud to announce that the six area museums that have agreed to participate have sent in their passes or vouchers.
Each museum has a different way of handling this public good, in which the Jersey City library has to adhere. The attached chart explains the details of this implementation in a clear way.
The participating museums are: American Museum of Natural History; Brooklyn Botanic Garden; Imagine That!!! Children’s Museum; Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum; Museum of Modern Art; and The Skyscraper Museum. The Imagine That!!! Children’s Museum is located in Florham Park, N.J., while the other five museums are located in New York City.
Museum passes and/or vouchers have been purchased for $4,450, in aggregate, through the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation for the benefit of its valid library card holders, and are not to be used by groups, teachers and their classes, and the employees of the Jersey City library system.
The Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, Inc. was established on January 27, 2004 by Library Director Priscilla Gardner to support the mission of the library: to provide services and materials for the education, enrichment and entertainment of the people of Jersey City.
As other museums respond, the list will grow. The following is the policy for Museum Passes:
Jersey City Free Public Library patrons, who have library cards in good standing, can check out a pass for free visits to the museums listed from the REFERENCE DEPARTMENT, Contact Patricia Mulligan and John Butler, 2nd Floor, Main Library, 472 Jersey Avenue, Jersey City, N.J. Patrons must return the pass the following day at 10:00 a.m.; however a $40.00 cash deposit is required when the pass is borrowed. The deposit is refunded when the pass is returned on time. Library cardholders must reserve Museum Passes ahead of time and will not be allowed more than 5 passes per year. When a museum issues a voucher instead of a pass, the valid library card holder does not have to present the $40 cash deposit, since the voucher does not have to be returned to the Library. Please make sure to have your library card, in case the museum requests any proof of affiliation.
The Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, Inc. is chartered in Jersey City as a 501(c)(3) organization to receive charitable gifts. Benefactors can contribute to the foundation with gifts of cash, property, securities or real estate, trust arrangements, bequests in wills and by naming the foundation as beneficiary of a life insurance policy. The JCFPL Foundation hopes to encourage individuals and organizations to make financial contributions to the Foundation to assure that the library can continue its exceptional service far into the future.
