Federal Documents Department Promoted Stroke Awareness in its Well-Attended Program on May 17th
Fifteen people traveled to the Main Library in Jersey City for the Stroke Awareness program, presented by the Federal Documents Department, on Tuesday, May 17, 2012. The discussion on the cause factors, care, and prevention of stroke was led by Dr. Erica Frangione, DNP, RN-BC – a Registered Nurse Stroke Program Coordinator from Bayonne Medical Center.
The program was a timely one, as May is Stroke Awareness Month. Did you know? Someone in the US has a stroke every 40 seconds. Every 4 minutes someone dies of stroke. Every year, about 795,000 of these are first or new strokes. About 185,000 people who survive a stroke go on to have another. Stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability. a BIG Hit with 30 Intensely Interested Attendees
On May 22, 2012 the NJ Room offered a workshop entitled, “Who Do You Think You Are?” building upon the wildly successful NBC television show which was partially filmed here in November 2010 for the Rosie O’Donnell segment that aired in February 2011, and for which the department is currently working with the BBC on an English celebrity – still a mystery to us since the ancestors lived here over 100 years ago.
Women in Action Awards
Cynthia Harris Honored as one of 27 Women in Action at the Jersey City Women’s History Month Program on March 30, 2012
From the looks of each woman’s biography, no one was seeking out an award. Each was in her was in her own sphere, making a difference and making tracks to her next assignment.
Such is Cynthia Harris in the execution of her duties as manager of the New Jersey Room at the Main Library. It was perfectly right and fitting that the Jersey City Mayor and Municipal Council award her during National Women’s History Month 2012.
Jersey City Council President Peter Brennan nominated Cynthia for the Women in Action award, which was given out in a ceremony in the beautiful Anna Cucci Memorial Council Chambers at the historic City Hall on Thursday evening, March 29, 2012. One of 27 women, Cynthia beamed when she approached the podium to receive her award from Jersey City Council President Brennan, Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, and First Lady Maureen.
