MAIN LIBRARY OPENS TODAY, Monday, December 1 & CLOSES FOUR DEPARTMENTS due to Construction Demolition Clean Up

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   December 1, 2014 – As the dust settles from the major construction demolition at the Main Library in Jersey City, 472 Jersey Avenue, the building has opened today, Monday, December 1, 2014, with four (4) departments still CLOSED – Bonetti Children’s Room, Lending, Biblioteca Criolla and Federal Documents – due to need for further clean up from the demolition of the first floor restrooms.

“We apologize for the continued inconvenience, but health concerns are more important,” said Library Director Priscilla Gardner. “We expect Lending, Criolla and Documents to open again on Tuesday, December 2, at 9 a.m.”

MAIN LIBRARY CLOSES FULL WEEK (November 24-28) due to Construction Demolition & Thanksgiving Holiday

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   November 23, 2014 –  The Main Library in Jersey City, 472 Jersey Avenue, will be closed for the entire Thanksgiving week – on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Saturday, November 24, 25, 26 & 29, due to the demolition of the first floor restrooms, and on Thursday & Friday, November 27 & 28, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

“We apologize for any inconvenience,” said Library Director Priscilla Gardner. “The contractors are trying to complete this one task while we are closed so that the air quality will be fine when tested before our return. Given that, we expect the Main Library to open again on Monday, December 1, at 9 a.m."

Heights Branch Closing on Wednesday, November 19 Due to United Water

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   November 19, 2014 – The Heights Branch Library, 14 Zabriskie Street, of the Jersey City Free Public Library will close on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, due to United Water needing to shut off the water main.

The Heights Branch expects to be open Regular hours on Thursday, November 20, 12 noon. to 8 p.m.

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   November 21, 2014 – As the major construction unfolds at the Main Library in Jersey City, 472 Jersey Avenue, the full building has closed for today, Friday, November 21, 2014 and tomorrow, Saturday, November 22, due to the demolition of the first floor restrooms.

“We apologize for any inconvenience,” said Library Director Priscilla Gardner, who oversees the Bonetti Children’s Room. “And we expect the Main Library to open again on Monday, November 24, at 9 a.m.”

JERSEY CITY, N.J.   November 12, 2014 – The Heights Branch Library, 14 Zabriskie Street, has lots to sing about, in light of the rousing success of its latest Acoustic Guitars program, hosted by Bob Albrecht and Sam Oliver. The program is presented in conjunction with the Community Awareness Series, a department of the Jersey City Free Public Library that is located at the Miller Branch.

The family-oriented program held on Monday, November 10 had a total attendance of 56 people, which included 20 adults and 36 children. The purpose of the event was for families to engage their children with basic learning games of ABCs; 1, 2, 3; and animal sounds, within a children’s music program. The targeted audience was for preschoolers, up to pre-teen years.
