Where are the Library branches and when are they open?

The Jersey City Free Public Library consists of the Main Library, 5 Regional Libraries, 6 Neighborhood Libraries and the Bookmobile. They are strategically located in different neighborhoods to serve the constituents of Jersey City. Click here for Location, Phone Number, and Hours of operation for the Libraries.

Can I use the Internet at the Library?

Public Internet access is provided at all branches of the Jersey City Free Public Library. See the JCPL Computer and Internet Policy for details about Rules of Conduct for Use of Public Computers.

Other than Internet use, are there any other applications available at the Library?

All public access computers have Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. To find out what other computer applications are available, please call the individual Library.

How do I get a Library Card?

What is my PIN and why do I need it?

Your Personal Identification Number allows you to access your library account information through the library catalog. Your PIN should have been presented to you when you initially registered for your account. If you misplaced your PIN or have forgotten it, please visit your local library.

While viewing the online Library catalog, click on User Services located at the left column of the page. With your Library barcode number (also known as your User ID) along with your PIN, you are able to:

How do I change my PIN number?

Provided that you know your existing PIN number, you can then change your PIN. Go to the online Library catalog. Click on User Services located at the left column of the page. Click on "User PIN Change". Follow the directions provided on the page. If you have forgotten your PIN, please contact your local library for assistance. Change your existing PIN

How do I renew books and other materials?

Go to the online Library catalog . Click on User Services located at the left column of the page. Click on "Renew Materials ". Enter your Library barcode number as well as your PIN, then click on the List Charged Items button. In the new screen that comes up, you are then able to renew all or selected items that are currently checked out under your account. Renew books online

Where do I return the items I have borrowed?

You can return borrowed materials at any of the branches in the Jersey City Free Public Library. Please note that we do not have any book drops for all our locations. You need to return items that you have checked out during our regular hours of operation. Items belonging to other library systems obtained through Interlibrary Loan must be returned to the branch where they were requested.
